Players begin their journey in the Hoenn region, choosing a starter Pokémon from Professor Birch to embark on a quest to become the Pokémon Champion. The core loop involves exploring diverse environments, from volcanic mountains to deep oceans, while engaging in turn-based battles against wild creatures and rival trainers. You must navigate the world using the directional pad, interact with NPCs using the primary action button, and manage your team via the start menu. The main objective is to collect eight Gym Badges, thwart the plans of both Team Magma and Team Aqua, and ultimately challenge the Elite Four.
